10 Doomsday trends America can’t survive

Commentary: We are past the point of no return, thanks to Super Rich

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (MarketWatch) — Doomsday Capitalism? Capitalism is killing America? Yes, that’s the message in my tenth book. “Doomsday Capitalism, 10 Self-Destructive Trends.” But you’ll never see it in print. No one, even book publishers want to read this truth: Capitalism is destroying America.

Why? Super-Rich Capitalists get rich off these macro trends. They want happy talk. Back in 2007 Vanguard founder Jack Bogle called my warnings “prescient.” But that didn’t stop the meltdown. Next time financial historians warn of a bigger meltdown; a total collapse has been the destiny of every nation for eight centuries. This time, capitalism is the saboteur.

Yale scholar Immanuel Wallerstein warns that capitalism’s at the end of a 500-year cycle: The “political struggle is over what kind of system will replace capitalism, not whether it should survive.” We cannot stop this cycle.

Yes, Super-Rich Capitalists will fight to the death. But destiny is trapped in our DNA, historians warn, and will not change. America is run by these short-term thinkers. They never learn the lessons of history. They do not want you to know that their capitalism is self-destructive, that capitalism’s cycle is in a suicidal end game, that their “mutant capitalism,” as Bogle calls it, is destroying the very soul of America’s democracy.

I'm sceptic to messages like that. They've been saying capitalism is coming to an end in the near future for like 150 years... and? It's still here!

With neoliberalism, capitalism will be doom. However we need a system to take into acccount some limits like limited ressources and the economy return to his etimolgy sense.

Seriously how could we believe in infinite growth with more and more tiny ressources in a limited planet laughing of thermodynamic laws ? The problem it's not about when.

False, the liberalism that current politicians are injecting into capitalism is killing America.

I love how the ignorant masses try to make successful entrepreneurs seem somehow excessively greedy or avaricious through name-calling. If the rest of America possessed the financial foresight to make money in that manner, each and every person would -- end of discussion (granted, some members of the upper class only inherited their money, but not most).

Additionally, everyone with a pulse could foresee "the meltdown" by 2007.

Ah yes, the alternatives -- variants of socialism -- have been historically much more effective. Must be why the Industrial Revolution didn't move America into the position of the world's leading superpower. Must also be why China and India -- with their expanding capitalist economy -- aren't currently surpassing Europe, which is drifting into socialism.

I'm sorry, what? The "lessons of history"? -- such as, oh, I don't know, everything mentioned above, as well as the Axis powers, the USSR, the Middle East, etc., etc?

You're forgetting the Venus Project. It's the answer to all our problems, basically it's global Stalinism but with robots instead of goulags ;)
